NPR: Gene therapy may aid in sickle cell disease treatment

NPR health correspondent Rob Stein reports on promising genetic treatments for sickle cell disease.  The story focuses on two trials: the Boston Children’s gene therapy trial led by Dr. Erica Esrick and Dr. David Williams and a CRISPR trial. Stein says the Boston Children’s trial is looking good for the first handful of patients and that encouraging results were reported at the recent meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in Florida.
